Dialectical Behavioral Therapy

Are there times you feel out of control? Have you lost your ability to regulate your emotions, act out in risky behaviors or self harm, often have suicidal thoughts? Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is an excellent treatment to help you become more mindful, regulate your emotions, tolerate distress and better your relationships. DBT was originally created and researched for the treatment of highly suicidal adults, which proved successful. Today, DBT is proven effective to treat Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), eating disorders, treatment-resistant depression, substance use, and a variety of other disorders. A diagnosis of a mental disorder is not required to benefit from this treatment as families, friends and therapists are encouraged to practice these skills.

Treatment is provide weekly in individual therapy session and group skills class. Clients will recognize the importance of acceptance and change as they learn skills they might not have been taught earlier in life. The goal of DBT treatment is building a life worth living.

“The bottom line is that if you are in hell, the only way out is to go through a period of sustained misery. Misery is, of course, much better than hell, but it is painful nonetheless. By refusing to accept the misery that it takes to climb out of hell, you end up falling back into hell repeatedly, only to have to start over and over again.”
